I laid it all out in a grand plan in advance. Lots of fun activities and programs for us in Hungary while Norbert catches up with work in Austria.

What I did not foresee was a summer storm throwing broken branches on the railways and a strike on the following day, withholding Norbert from his scheduled return to Vienna. All these apparently not too significant events led us to end up on a field covered with grass, playing soccer with the kids. And this chain of events ended with me stepping into a pit and rushing into the hospital with half-torn ligaments around my ankle. Not too good one and a half weeks before our hiking trip to the Austrian Alps. I will need miracles if I want to stand on the mountain tops without pain.

I also consider among "other" events the fact that the upper neighbors of my parents managed to let water running down the walls - again. We had to watch the accumulating damage for some days before we could talk to an adult upon her return from vacation. Her teenage girls who she left at home were not addressable due to their total lack of cooperation and respect!
But up to the more pleasant list of our pre-arranged activities!

According to our annual tradition we visited the boat house where I spent most of my happy childhood. With lots of help from a friend, Géza the kids and Norbert could do some kayaking this year too! By the way, Géza is not just a trainer, he is also the trainer of the Hungarian National Marathon Kayaking Team and one of the most patient and caring coach I have ever met. Lucky us.

Annie was in the motorboat with Géza and me since she is too young for kayaking but definitely not for taking great pictures with the camera as she proved it to me again.
In the end I had to put her also into a kayak for a short try after all just to prove it to her that she is still too young this year.

The boys, Daniel and Norbert did capsize unwillingly but were so happy to be wet on a hot summer day that Julia decided to follow their example intentionally when the camera was ready.

And here is everything in motion.
These two pictures are among the best shots Annie took from the motorboat.

The first one showing some junior kayakers passing Julia from all sides.
The second one is a boy riding out a wave joyfully with his boat.

We coordinated our stay in Hungary so that we could also meet Krisztina in Budapest, a friend who we have not seen for the last one and a half years since she left to Australia. Fortunately, her schedule in Budapest coincided with ours and so we took on the road (and traffic jams) again.
It did not take too long especially for the kids to feel at home at Krisztina's sister's place. There was fine food, a big garden, lots of toys and nice children to play with.

Julia, Daniel and Dorka put up a fantastic puppet show.

Natalie was being taught by Daniel how to shoot a rocket with air pump.
Annie sticked to Barni most of the time.

Following the example set by the older kids they also attempted to put together a show of their own.

Unfortunately, they ran into several laughing attacks and the show had to be postponed to an unspecified point of time in the future.

On our last day in Hungary we went downtown.
We bought Daniel`s very first suit, a new outfit for Julia to wear at the opening ceremony of her high school and a new summer dress for Annie which we all think fits her personality perfectly.

Nagyi also surprised us with a marzipan cake. Since we are not going to see the grandparents on the kids` actual birthday, we set together and "warmed up" for the upcoming events.

Then it was time to start our trip back to Austria.
