2009.08. - Inline Skatepark Austria

I started out vacation with a bandage on my finger.
Close to the end of it I got myself another one.
Luckily this had to stay on only for 3 days and it looked a lot more serious than it actually was. Painful nevertheless.

For our 2 days off without kids we chose to go to the Inline Skate Park in Lutzmannsburg, right on the Hungarian-Austrian border.

It has an extensive net of paved paths through forests and over the fields which are ideal for biking and roller skating. Since the region is heavily working on creating the image of a family resort area, I expected the routes to be crowded. Actually, we only met one family during our first rolling trip.

On the first day we went for the 30km route.
I was happily skating behind Norbert, admiring the landscape, obviously underestimating the amount of attention you need to pay to the road while skating with speed.

A little twig got stuck under my left skate. Caught me totally by surprise, spinning me to the left. I landed on my right hand and then heavily on my butt. Total damage: two finger nails half rubbed off by the rough surface and an aching tailbone for 4 weeks.

We decided to follow the original plan. We went for another 30km next day.

Norbert ran as part of his preparation for the October Marathon and I stayed on the skates.

He made it in 3 hours and a whole lot of new experience valuable for the race.

After we got my wounds cleaned up at the hospital, we rented two bikes in the afternoon and went on another 15 km route.

Had some drinks in a little village ("Kroatisch-Minihof"), next to some local guys who got some fresh water for their horses they were riding.

Not only many of the little towns in the region have strange names - some Hungarian, some Austrian - I also saw for the first time apple trees growing like grapevine.

It was a great trip, 2 days spent outdoors.
I am sure we will see this region again.
