2009.01./2. - Back at Home

"Home, sweet home"
- is what we thought upon arrival after 3 weeks of travelling.
And not just sweet but also stylish and practical with new pieces of furniture and arrangements.

Living & Dining Room

Bed Room & Bathroom

D's & AM's room

J's room with her regular guests occupying the lamp - Sky & Kiwi

It was not just the furniture but also the routines and familiar activities that made us feel home fairly quickly.

J practicing French on her learning software ...

... and taking a break (head but not the fingers) by playing a little piano.

Annie is baking "Donauwelle" (again) and making sure that there would be no need for washing up the dishes - especially the ones covered with chocolate.

Then she burnt off the newly acquired calories by producing complex architectual compositions out of building blocks.

D engaged in preparing for numerous upcoming school tests ...

... and decided to switch into combat mode by getting his first (and last?) hair cut by Papa.

One of the valuable insights I gained from the book "A Nation of Wimps" was the signinficance of "free play" - an unstructured time with no agenda, no adult coaches, just kids getting together and making up their own games with roles and rules - of their own. So I promised myself to make time for such play.

Julia invited Mimi. To my surprise they decided to bake a cake - looked for a recipe on the internet, rode the scooters to the supermarket and got all the ingredients and then baked the cake - chocolate with marzipan. Great project carried out with passion.

Annie played with Jette. We only saw them when they suspected the empty bowls needed some "cleaning". Otherwise they played dressing up and coloring (and maybe some other things too) upstairs the whole time.

Annie also invited Daria. With her she played Puppet Theater for hours with a (never-ending) special show for us before pick-up time.

After so much activity, we all earned a little time for ourselves.

I used it to catch-up with the latest trends at the nail-studio.
