2009.07. - Fountains & Rivers - Hungary

Moving on to Hungary meant even higher temperatures and more sun than before.

How can you bear it and enjoy it ? Stay cool ! Chill out ! Stay close to water. That's what we did most of the time.

For our great pleasure Gyor's downtown got richer with a fountain.

This needed to be tested several time, day and night.

Nagyi could hardly wait to show it to the grandkids.

And they could hardly wait to claim their birthday cake ...

... combined with a tour through the city.

Checking out the boathouse & kayaking club became natural to the kids too.

This year by doing so, we could also return a great favour to a friend of mine, Susu who hasn't been in a racing boat for years since she finished a long professional kayaking career.

After a short warm-up we all "boarded" except for Annie.

Kids normally start with 8 which gives her 2 more years waiting time in Geza's motorboat.
"Simply not acceptable" - thought Annie and proved to us in the days to come that you can manage even if the boat and paddle are not built for your size.

As a reward we all got treats.

The kids opted as usual for pancakes with different fillings - cacao, poppy seed cream, marmelade, walnut cream.

Norbert chose Somloi as always.

And I saved my stomach this time for one of my favorite childhood sweets - "Madartej" - Bird Milk - cooked out of milk, eggs and sugar.

Finally, the kids could also try another traditional Hungarian camp meal - bacon roasted over campfire, served with white bread and fresh vegetables. And not just once.

By the time fire was built and going ....

... Daniel sharpened the sticks - with some blood involved - and the girls decorated them with bacon.

By the time we got to Susu's parents' garden, the kids knew what to expect -

- at least the bacon roasting part.

Again the girls looked after the food with Susu's father ...

Dana carved yet another stick ... but his real delight came after the meal ....

... shooting with a gun.

of course everybody needed to "give it a shot" ... or two .. or three ...

I must say, my laser eye operation paid off very well. I hit the most inner circle 4 times out of 5!

Even when I aimed and Annie pulled the tigger !

We hardly had time for "normal" games and a quick hike over the hills ...

... before having to say good-bye to Nyul.

There was not much time left to be sad.
Our new discovery led us to Lipot where a new adventure swim center just opened.

Nagyi supervised the kids in the dry area ...

... Susu and I took care of them in the pools and on the slides.
