2008.06.20. - School is out for summer

The last week of school was a very easy and cheerful one.

It started with the traditional school-year-end concert of the music school where Julia and Daniel could also show off on stage their newly acquired skills to the eagerly and patiently listening Moms and Dads of all the little musicians.

Then the week finally ended with the grades handed out at school which we accepted with pleasure.

At last, the summer break of 2008 was officially here!

I tried to utilize the kids' surplus energy and extra free time so I decided to hand them some household jobs but they just could not take anything seriously (:). Not that I could blame them...

Julia could hardly wait to join Alena and start her 10 day Girl Scout Summer Camp. She took the initiative and packed her bags alone and there was not one important thing missing I could have added to her luggage.

Before our good-bye to them which was returned by a quick wave while running off to their tent, we did some exploration together around the camp and captured some images.

The stories will follow upon Julia's return... we hope!

Since my parents pointed me out that I had been working too hard behind the camera and hardly ever stood in front of it, I set out to find myself some paparazzi. No matter how young, they quickly understood the idea of trying to get the right picture - the more intimate, the better. This was taken by Annie. She still needs to work on her setting of the sharpness but I kind of like it anyway.

And this was taken by Daniel.
Did you know that Paparazzi is a plural term (paparazzo being the singular form) for photographers who take candid pictures of celebrities, usually by relentlessly shadowing them in their public and private activities. The word paparazzi was introduced by the 1960 film La dolce vita directed by Federico Fellini where one of the characters in the film was a news photographer named Paparazzo.

While Annie's Kindergarten and pre-School went on normally, except for a special face painting day, Daniel spent his first week of vacation at a Soccer Summer Camp.
He woke up 2 hours before necessary every morning (why can't he do that for school?) and practiced in front of the house. The neighbors did not complain though thanks to the European Soccer Championship going on in Switzerland and Austria right now which heated up the German public atmosphere and national pride quite a bit, especially that of the children living here, no matter of what nationality.
