2009.06. - Camp Lilienwald & Burg Rieneck

Visiting Camp Lilienwald once a year became a tradition of the Girl Scout Troops in the Taunus area. It is a beautiful and well equipped camp site with wooden cabins and enough place for tents.

Camp Lilienwald

Juniors and older Scouts could stay in a tent - Julia and Alena did so with pleasure - and Katie on the first night.
Cabins were for the younger Scouts (including Annie) and Moms !

Here is our Troop this year.

And the messkits hung up to dry after the Meals (:)

It is this Campsite where the Girls are awarded and they can "bridge" to the next, more senior level of scouting for next year.

Juniors - Katie, Julia, Alena - bridged to become Cadettes.

Daisies - Annie and Daria - bridged to become Brownies

And now may the Fun Activities begin!

Scottish Dance
Eightsome Reel Country Dance

The steps are easy, it is the formations that require concentration.

But it is so much fun! Almost as much laughing than dancing !

Modern Dance was also provided -

and

Fun Experiments: Coke-Mentos Volcano (very messy)

After the rain stopped, we went on a hike and counted snails along the trail (we stopped after 150).

Here is one baby snail on Mom's back (:)

Then we played string games.

Here is Annie with the "Eiffel Tower"

And Julia with "Jacob's Ladder", Daria with a Broomstick.

Alena showed us how to do the Palm Tree which needs not only two hands but also a foot!

We liked the String Figures so much, we looked up some more on the internet at home.

Julia learnt for example the Apache Door.
The one I liked most was to hard to follow on YouTube - it is the "Sunset between mountains".

There seemed to be no limit to size or complexity of these figures.

"Giant Joint Tower"

and

"Flash Light"

Lunch Break in the Common Room

Cleaning up after the meal
Juniors and Cadettes really felt privileged to do the job!

Then there was more singing.

They also learnt how to construct fire starters

Roasting Marshmallows
and
eating them as S'mores was a MUST. Even if we had to do it this time due to the rain indoor.

But when the rain stopped we went out for outdoor games and free play.

This is very Annie probably learnt the most - always surrounded by older girls, who taught her games, tricks and ways how to behave in a group.

Skits followed - short acts of play on stage played out for the other Troops.

We had "30 seconds" and "Cold Water".

Also the Juniors, then our Troop taught the "Hoedown Throwdown" to the rest of the girls.

After sunset the kids snuggled up in their sleeping bags and Kelly read some funny poems before light out.

The Camp was a huge success.

New friendships were formed ....

... and old ones strengthened.

And there was even a little time for sisters to be together.

But not much.
